Masseria Borgo dei Trulli

About

Masseria Borgo dei Trulli, recently acquired and revitalized by winemaker Alessandro Michelon, is situated in the heart of the Salento region in Puglia, Italy. The estate is located near the Salice Salentino DOP area, a region renowned for its historic Trulli houses, traditional stone dwellings used by farm workers dating back to the Middle Ages.

The estate features vineyards planted with the Alberello Pugliese (free-standing bush training) method, particularly those established around 1960. This method is crucial for producing their top-quality Primitivo wines. Under Michelon’s dynamic leadership, Masseria Borgo dei Trulli combines modern winemaking techniques with traditional methods to craft exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.

The winery’s vineyards, located in the communes of Sava, Manduria, and Maruggio, benefit from the region’s fertile soils and ideal climatic conditions, which are perfect for cultivating Primitivo, Negroamaro, Vermentino, Malvasia Bianca, Fiano, and Sauvignon Blanc. The estate’s wines are known for their rich flavors and distinct personality, with a particular emphasis on the Primitivo di Manduria DOP, a variety that thrives in this part of Italy.

Masseria Borgo dei Trulli is committed to sustainable practices, ensuring that their winemaking process respects the environment and the local traditions. The winery itself is a blend of modern design and historical architecture, featuring state-of-the-art facilities alongside a restored old masseria, providing a beautiful contrast and a nod to the region’s rich history.
