We were approached by Frances Dean from Chateau Astrelus in Bordeaux last Summer. A Lancashire lass, she lived in various places around the world with her husband who is a pilot. When the couple wanted to settle down and have a family their criteria was to be close to an airport and they fell in love with a property in Bordeaux. What they hadn’t realised was that they got some vineyards with the house, an area outside their expertise!
Having rented the vineyards out for several years and watching with interest the work that went on at various times of the year they decided that they would venture into the world of winemaking, Chateau Astrelus was born. Three vintages later and with the addition of Frances’s father and his tractor shipped over from his farm in Lancashire the excellent rose and red are a modern approach to Bordeaux and we hope to get many listings for them in 2017.
