Domaines Schlumberger

About

Founded in 1810 by Nicolas Schlumberger, Domaines Schlumberger has grown to become one of France’s most renowned wine estates. Situated in Guebwiller, Alsace, the estate is now managed by the 6th and 7th generations of the Schlumberger family. Spanning 130 hectares, with 70 hectares designated as Grand Cru, it holds the largest Grand Cru vineyard ownership in Alsace.

The history of the vineyards dates back to 207 AD, showcasing a rich heritage of viticulture. The estate’s vineyards are planted on steep, terraced slopes with gradients as steep as 60 degrees, supported by 50 kilometres of dry-stone walls to prevent soil erosion. These conditions, combined with optimal south to southeast exposure and a cooling breeze, allow the organically farmed grapes to reach perfect maturity.

Domaines Schlumberger produces a variety of wines, focusing on classic Alsatian grape varieties such as Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Muscat, Sylvaner, and Pinot Blanc. Their portfolio includes several Grand Cru wines from the Saering, Kessler, Kitterlé, and Spiegel vineyards, which are known for their exceptional quality and unique terroir expressions. The estate also offers the Princes Abbés range, honouring the Prince Abbots who historically managed the vineyards.

The family’s commitment to sustainable practices is evident, with the estate achieving 100% sustainability since 2003 and incorporating biodynamic principles in 30 hectares of their vineyards since 2006. The rigorous approach to vineyard management and low yields ensure that each bottle reflects the distinctiveness of its origin.
