It has been a busy few weeks at EWGA Wines and in the world of wine with lots of summer events, new wines and much more!
Cumbria Tourism Awards 2019
We were fortunate enough to be invited to attend the annual Cumbrian Tourism Awards as wine sponsor and spent an enjoyable evening toasting the great businesses that the area has to offer. It was great to hear about the opening of Carlisle airport and see the hard work and dedication put in by successful hospitality businesses throughout the region. You can read more about the event and the winners on the Cumbria Tourism website.
New Dessert Wine – Chilinero Late Harvest
We are very excited that our very popular Chilinero range has a new addition, which arrived last week. The Chilinero Late Harvest will replace our Santa Monica Late harvest and comes in a handy 375ml bottle size.
Priced at only £4.95 per bottle it is perfect to serve in 50ml measures and either cost into a dessert offering or price sensibly at £2.75 per glass as an easy upsell and making over 70% GP. Please do ask for a sample.
Check out our Facebook video of the wine tasting here.
The ascent of Ben Nevis
It was great to get 8 members of the team up Ben Nevis last weekend. Including our MD Adrian who has been involved with the business since his parents started it in 1972, we reckoned that between us we’ve clocked up 114 years service with the company. Some of the team have now completed the three highest peaks in the UK together and were awarded with certificates for their efforts. It has become a company tradition that wherever we walk on our annual weekend away we take our successful Prosecco brand Romeo with us to celebrate our achievement. We even found a patch of snow on Ben Nevis to chill it!
Award-winning Rioja!
Congratulations to our Rioja Agency Bodegas Riojanas for scoring 92 points with Wine Spectator for their Monte Real Reserva.
We have always thought that it is a great wine and offers excellent value for money but it is great to have that confirmed by The Wine Spectator Magazine.
Prosseco Hills gain World Heritage Status!
We are also very excited to share the news with you that Italy’s Prosecco Hills region was awarded the UNESCO World Heritage Status! Read the full story here.
Prosecco is Italy’s most popular wine abroad as of 2019, and we have been a big advocate for these great wines for some time now, as demonstrated by bringing Romeo Prosecco all the way to the peak of the tallest mountain in the United Kingdom.
