Sommelier Wine Awards 2019
Sommelier Wine Awards 2019 (SWA) – a wine competition, which focuses entirely on wines available at the on-trade, announced their results this September. We are very excited to share with you the news that some of our wines have made the list.
3 Gold Medal Winners:
Tenute Fiorebelli ‘Cabaletta’ IGT Rosso delle Venezie 2016 – Judges praised this Gold winner’s great value, as well as ‘purity of fruit and bright acidity’. Team leader, Andres Ituarte found it ‘concentrated and toasty’, whilst Carlos Ferreira complemented its complexity.
Monte Real Rioja Gran Reserva 2011 – ‘Glorious Gran Reserva-style aromas,’ began team leader Sarah Jane Evans MW, adding that this clear Gold Lister was ‘backed up by supple red cherry fruits that are maturing nicely with tertiary development’.
Sharpham Estate Dart Valley Reserve 2017 – This wine was collectively praised for its peach and nectarine nose, with good sweetness, and a ripe fleshy palate. This Gold lister is a savoury wine with stone fruit character, like vine peach, great structure and texture and a long-lasting finish.
3 Silver Medal Winners:
2 Silver medals went to Masseria Borgo dei Trulli, or simply ‘Trulli’ for short. Their ‘Primitivo 2016‘ and ‘Salice Salentino 2016‘, the former was recognised for its ‘warm aromas of ripe cherry and berry fruits’ whereas the latter was complimented for its character and ‘dark, rich bramble fruit, like blackberry jam, leading to black plum, all with some grip underneath, as well as some earthiness’. Trulli also managed to pick up another Bronze medal for their ‘Negroamaro’.
1 Silver medal went to Höpler wines for their ‘Burgenland Blaufrankisch’ valued for its ‘fresh, bright red fruit, combined with a lovely floral, rose note’.
2 Bronze Medals:
1 medal to aforementioned, Trulli Negroamaro Salento, and another to Veiga Naum Albarino described as a ‘‘Juicy, taut, bright and crunchy, happy fruit’ with ‘a lovely crisp apple freshness that finishes on a high,’
