Meerlust Estate, a cornerstone of South African wine heritage, has been the pride of the Myburgh family since 1756. Located 15 kilometers south of Stellenbosch, the estate’s name, meaning “pleasure of the sea,” reflects its proximity to the cooling breezes and mists of False Bay. The estate’s unique terroir, with its granite outcrop and rich soils, is ideal for cultivating Bordeaux varietals, leading to the creation of their iconic wine, Rubicon, in 1980.
The estate is managed by Hannes Myburgh, the eighth-generation custodian, who continues the family tradition of producing world-class wines. Meerlust’s vineyards benefit from the cool ocean influence, allowing for slow grape maturation and resulting in wines with exceptional complexity and character. The estate produces a variety of wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, all grown on-site.
Visitors to Meerlust Estate can explore its historic manor house, classic wine cellar, and picturesque rose gardens, offering a glimpse into the rich history and charm of this national monument. The estate remains a beacon of quality in the South African wine industry, known for its dedication to traditional winemaking practices and its commitment to excellence.
The company offers a competitive and diverse portfolio backed by sound professional advice and first-class customer service. Additional services include under-bond purchases, bulk and fine wine storage facilities, Riedel glassware, an online wine training platform and private label options.
