Dine with Bordeaux at The Sun Inn

Working in the wine trade is a varied, fun and interesting job and one that I’m lucky enough to have. Yesterday, for example, I had our usual Monday morning catch up meeting at head office before spending a bit of time thinking about the evening ahead at the Sun Inn Kirkby Lonsdale. www.sun-inn.info

I have been working with Mark and Lucy Fuller at The Sun Inn, Kirkby Lonsdale since they bought the place over eight years ago. Over that time they have developed their business to have a real emphasis on the quality of their food, wine and accommodation. It is a beautiful place, with fabulous and attentive staff. Over the year we plan a series of wine and food related dinners which focus on a different wine country or region. The highlight of the Posh Noshers dinner calendar is the Dine with Bordeaux feature which is supported by the Bordeaux Wine Council. www.goodfoodwouldchoosebordeaux.com

The menu is carefully chosen by head chef Sam Carter to reflect the cuisine of the area and compliment the chosen wines. Last night was no exception

Bordeaux is an area with a great variety of wines; dry white, Rose, red and dessert. From top Chateau to regional wines, there really is something for everyone no matter what their taste and budget. My role at these dinners is to present the wines and impart a bit of knowledge about the area. The best bit is that I get to sample all the fabulous wines with Sam’s food too! Sam and his team really work hard to match the food to the wines and we were lucky enough to try wines from Sauternes, St Emilion, Margaux as well as a Cotes de Provence Blanc from Chateau Plaisance. All the wines showed well with the Chateau Rayne Vigneau 2005 being a traditional and perfect match to the Foie Gras Terrine.

All in all a enjoyable day and night meeting some lovely people and hopefully getting them all enthusiastic about all things winey.
