Introducing Spanish Palate

Spanish Palate is a dynamic wine company founded in 2016 by British-born Nicola Thornton. It represents over 100 wines from 20 regions across Spain, focusing on wines that reflect the diversity and richness of their “terroirs” and are produced with respect for the environment.

They work with artisanal wineries that prioritise quality and sustainability – something very dear to our hearts.  We’re bringing in a diverse range of wines from interesting Spanish regions, including La Mancha, Toro, Almansa, Rueda, and Utiel-Requena.

We’re adding over 20 new wines! Among them, we’re reintroducing the Botas de Barro range, which we briefly listed a few years ago. Great wines, fascinating regions, and unique presentations—what’s not to love?

Botas de Barro

Botas de barro

Spain has, without a doubt, the largest number of old vines in the world and therefore produces high quality wines. Botas de Barro is Spanish for ‘dirty boots,’ a homage to the generations of farmers that have carefully looked after these historic vines for years assuring that they are perfectly preserved for future generations.

Wines from the range:
  • Botas de Barro Tinta de Toro
This deeply concentrated red wine comes from Toro, a region in north-west Spain where Tinta de Toro is the principal black grape. It has Intense and expressive aromas, dark berry flavours with a hint of violets and liquorice, backed by soft oak and a lingering finish.

  • Botas de Barro Garnacha Tintorera, Almansa
Incredibly intense in colour from the Garnacha Tintorera grape. Red berries, herbs and minerals blend seamlessly with delicate hints of French oak from its short time in barrel. The beautiful soft, rich and velvety texture on the palate gives way to a very pleasant finish.

  • Botas de Barro Monastrel, Jumilla
Delicate red and black berry fruits with hints of spice and a touch of oak on the nose. Well-balanced acidity offers a lively juicy palate making this an easy drinking wine without foregoing the character of Monastrell.

  • Botas de Barro Verdejo, Rueda
Crisp, fresh and aromatic dry white that expresses all the character and elegance of the Rueda region. Intense and bright with well-balanced acidity.

    Bodegas Garcia de Lara

    Garcia de lara

Garcia de Lara, based in Toledo, is an inspiring project in which Miguel Garcia de Lara and his brothers and sister are slowly reviving their historic, century old family vineyards.

The Garcia de Lara new generation is doing everything they can to revive what was once a thriving wine region that supplied all the wine to the city of Madrid before modern Rioja and Ribera del Duero found their stride.

    Wines from the range:
    • La Cueva Colorá Cencibel
Intense cherry colour. Ripe black fruit aromas with spicy notes. Well-balanced with smooth tannins and a persistent finish.

    Villa Iulia

Villa Iulia is the result of a unique production philosophy, in which the respect for the grape, land and environment of the vineyard are joined together with production techniques. El Alma de Gildo

    El Almo de Gildo

Quite simply, this wine is their effort to make the best possible wine from Toro they were capable of. Full stop. Every ounce of effort and knowledge has gone into this. It has resulted in 5 unique parcels that have been expertly combined to produce pure Toro character. Aged in a complex blend of 12 different types of oak from different origins, sizes and toasts before bottle ageing.

    Wines from the range:
    • El Alma de Gildo Tinta de Toro
Made from 100% Tinto De Toro. A beautiful and incredibly intense cherry red colour leads the way to a complex and intense nose showing hints of red and black berries, “monte bajo” in Spanish which is a blend of the wild herbs grown naturally around the vineyards. On the palate, it is big, bold and intense with fine tannins and a beautiful texture that requires food. The very fine oak sits perfectly behind the incredible quality of the Tinta de Toro grape.
